Characterisation Virtual Laboratory
Important note
The Characterisation Virtual Laboratory (CVL) will be decommissioned when HPC Wiener is shut down. No date has been set for this yet, but it will be later this year (2024). RCC will advise CVL and Wiener users of the shutdown date well ahead of time.
Open OnDemand (OOD) on HPC Bunya will replace CVL. Please see our OOD page for more information.
Please contact the RCC Service Desk if you have any queries.
The Characterisation Virtual Laboratory (CVL) is a managed eResearch desktop available to all Australian researchers working in imaging and characterisation sciences.
Using their AAF login, researchers can access the virtual laboratory using their choice of desktop client or web-based interface.
CVL allows researchers to easily access high-performance computing (HPC) setups over the internet using their own computers for processing large volumes of imaging data on remote systems.
CVL comes preinstalled with several imaging tools and related software already available on the HPC platforms. The CVL team is also ready to install new packages in response to the changing needs of the characterisation community.
RCC operates a CVL node on Wiener that is available to researchers from all QCIF member institutions (including UQ staff and HDR students) who need a GPU for their work. To apply to use it, please follow the Wiener access procedure. When opening an RCC support request ticket, please mention that you wish to use the CVL.
The CVL, as well as other tools to manage imaging data, can be found on the ImagingTools platform under "Tools".
