Last week RCC/QCIF eResearch Analyst Team Leader Belinda Weaver (pictured, third from right) attended her first in-person meet-up in New York as a recently elected member of the Software Carpentry Steering Committee. The meeting was held at Cold Spring Harbor Laboratory on Long Island.

The committee of seven, from the US, UK, Canada, Norway and Australia, met for two days to discuss a range of issues including finance, instructor training, partnerships, communication, committees and task forces.

Belinda will serve a 12-month term and is keen to raise the profile of Software Carpentry both in Australia and internationally. Her next Software Carpentry workshop at UQ will be 11–12 July, a tie-in event for the Winter School in Mathematical & Computational Biology. She will also be leading international development work on Library Carpentry at the Mozilla Science Lab Global Sprint on 2–3 June.
