The UQ Research Data Manager is now live

14 Feb 2018

UQ researchers and higher-degree research students can now easily manage their project’s research data and collaborate within or beyond the university using the UQ Research Data Manager (UQRDM).

This world-leading collaborative research data management infrastructure delivers ultra-fast, seamless access to research data, regardless of where the data is collected or where the researcher is based.

UQ researchers no longer need to use thumb drives, or other temporary storage arrangements for research data.

The UQRDM system is designed to be:

  • researcher-centric: You are in complete control of your project’s data. You decide what to store and share, and who can access it.
  • project-based: All research data relating to a project is conveniently stored in one location, accessible via a dedicated shared drive within UQ or the UQRDM cloud interface. Each project is allocated up to 1 TB of storage.

Research data is made available across UQ’s St Lucia campus notably via MeDiCi, RCC’s high-performance data storage fabric.

The UQRDM system also facilitates access to data from RCC-managed high-performance computers TinarooFlashLite and Awoonga.

Researchers can set up their project by logging into the UQRDM dashboard, and selecting “Create new record”. For more information on how to use the UQRDM, a user guide is available here. The UQ Library is also holding weekly drop-in sessions available to anyone interested in the new system, including research support staff.

For more background about the UQRDM, read the RCC article about last year’s pilot of the system.

UQRDM’s pilot involved researchers and HDR students from 28 UQ schools, centres and institutes, and demonstrated that the tool can provide fit-for-purpose, collaborative storage to a large number of research projects from a wide range of disciplines.
