Andrew was previously with Genesys — an American software company that sells customer experience and call centre technology — for 22 years, most recently as a Director of Customer Care.

Late last year, Genesys’s Brisbane support operation was shut down and Andrew was made redundant.

“I chose to move away from management and take on a hands-on technical role as a pathway to retirement,” said Andrew.

“I wasn’t actively looking for work when I came across the RCC position, but it ticked all the right boxes and so, here I am.”

RCC QRIScloud System Administrator Michael Mallon, who Andrew reports to, said Andrew brings decades of experience of service delivery in IT.

“He’s dived headfirst into a community of technical professionals delivering world-leading research infrastructure to Australian researchers,” said Michael.

“As someone who is also passionate about technology, I can appreciate why Andrew chose this project to throw his efforts behind. I made the same choice years ago and haven’t looked back.”

Before joining Genesys, Andrew worked in various software development roles in a number of different companies and institutions in Australia and overseas. One notable achievement during this time was building and designing the world’s first electronic tax filing system for New Zealand’s Inland Revenue Department in 1991.

Andrew has a Bachelor of Science and Bachelor of Engineering from the University of Tasmania.

His favourite pastimes are cycling and skiing, and he said, “The nerd in me likes building computers.”
