Artificial Intelligence Initiative launched at UQ

18 Oct 2019

A cross-disciplinary group of researchers and academics at UQ working on artificial intelligence (AI) and its applications has formed the AI Initiative (AI2) this year.

AI is receiving worldwide attention, with breakthrough results in a range of research domains generating excitement, speculation and concern about the potential revolutionary impact of AI on economic growth and the future of jobs in the face of automation.

AI2 is a collective bringing together UQ’s leading experts across engineering, mathematics, science, medicine, business and the social sciences to share knowledge and develop collaborations.

The group is concerned with the role of AI in research, teaching and learning and operations at UQ.

UQ’s School of Information Technology and Electrical Engineering is leading the initiative.

Currently, 25 senior UQ researchers are part of AI2.

A free workshop on AI at UQ for the university’s staff and RHD students will be held on Tuesday, 26 November in the Queensland Brain Institute’s (QBI) auditorium. More information will be released on the AI2 website closer to the time.

You can follow AI2 on Twitter at: @UQAIGroup.
