RCC eResearch Analyst and Geocomputing Specialist Cihan Altinay joined SGI as a System Support Engineer on Monday, 15 August.
In his new Brisbane-based role, CIhan will provide technical support to research institutions across Queensland, including UQ, for SGI-provided high-performance computing and storage systems.
He will also assist in the installation and configuration of new systems across Australia.
SGI is the vendor of much of RCC’s HPC hardware, including newly launched Tinaroo.
Cihan worked across RCC, QCIF and UQ’s School of Earth Sciences as an eResearch Analyst and computer scientist.
“My eight years at UQ were exciting, challenging and diverse, and the skills I have acquired will be very useful in my new role,” he said. “I will miss the collegiality among RCC, QCIF and GeoComp’ staff, and the work environment was made so much better by the many great people I got to know and work with.”
