In possibly an Australian first, a computing seminar series will feature an all-female line-up of speakers.
Of the 14 speakers, 12 are confirmed for this year's RCC seminar series, including:
- Dr Genevieve Bell, an anthropologist and Intel's only female fellow, the company's highest technical rank
- Prof. Ewa Deelman, Research Director at the University of Southern California's Information Sciences Institute
- Maxine Brown, Director of the Electronic Visualization Laboratory at the University of Illinois, Chicago.
Speakers' topics are still being discussed and will be added to the RCC seminars webpage once confirmed.
The seminar series starts 29 July and will occur each Friday morning (usually 9am–10am AEST) until 4 November.
Run in collaboration with MURPA (Monash University Research Projects Abroad), the series features overseas-based speakers connecting remotely via videoconferencing software with audiences at both Monash and UQ.
At UQ, the seminars are held in RCC's state-of-the-art videoconferencing facility, featuring high-resolution multi-tiled screens, in the St Lucia Campus's Axon Building.
The seminars are free and all are welcome to attend, with no registration required. For those unable to attend, most seminars are recorded and uploaded to RCC's YouTube channel. However, if you can attend in person, then do so, to be part of the Q&A session at the end of each seminar. Videos from last year's seminar series are also on RCC's YouTube channel.
