IBM Australia has created and filled a graduate position to work directly with The University of Queensland’s Research Computing Centre and help advance research outcomes at UQ.
The new job role, titled “Systems Expert Labs – Delivery Consultant (Associate),” will further explore how IBM technologies can enhance and accelerate research outcomes at UQ, with the potential to have innovative practices expanded globally.
Monash University Mathematics and Computational Science graduate Joshua (Josh) Riantoputra has been hired for the role and is expected to start on 20 July 2026.
He will work across both the UQ St Lucia Campus and IBM’s Brisbane office.
Josh is best known for his leadership in artificial intelligence and high-performance computing, actively serving as a team captain for Monash DeepNeuron, one of Australia’s premier student-led AI organisations.
RCC Director Jake Carroll said the new role is another big step in the growth of RCC and the IBM@UQ Centre of Excellence and Innovation.
“This is a unique opportunity to do something on the inside of the innovation engine and be a contributor to cutting-edge digital research infrastructure that empowers and enables discovery,” said Jake.
“Josh will get to work on things that are genuinely world-leading and boundary-pushing, and might even contribute to things that help to better society.”
Josh meets IBM Australia’s criteria of someone interested in research, research systems, AI in research, scaling data management platforms, problem solving, and working as part of exceptional teams.
The IBM@UQ Centre of Excellence and Innovation was created five years ago to support researchers working across a wide range of disciplines, including, but not limited to, health, life-sciences, manufacturing and environmental sciences, and helps researchers address the challenges associated with extreme data growth, data organisation and data storage.
