RCC is a finalist in this year’s “Oscars of Invention” for a software debugging tool it created.
The R&D 100 Awards honour the latest and best innovations internationally and identify the top technology products of the past year. Since 1963, the R&D 100 Awards have identified revolutionary technologies introduced to the market.
An independent panel of judges placed RCC’s Cray Comparative Debugging (CCDB) Tool as a finalist in the awards’ “Software/Services” category.
The R&D 100 Awards Committee said: “This is a high achievement and entitles you to an honoured place in this select R&D community.”
RCC Director Prof. David Abramson, the lead developer of CCDB, said being a finalist demonstrates that Australian research can contribute to commercial products on a world scale. "The result also underpins the tremendous value of the ARC Linkage grant scheme that pairs Australian research with commercial partners who can utilise it," he said.
CCDB is a parallel debugging tool that helps computer programmers quickly and easily locate errors by looking at the divergence in data between two versions of the same program. Importantly, CCDB works across programming languages and environments.
The official announcement of all the 2016 R&D 100 finalists will be published in the September/October issue of R&D Magazine.
This year’s R&D 100 winners will be announced on 3 November at an awards dinner during the R&D 100 Conference in Washington, D.C., USA. Last year’s winners can be viewed in R&D Magazine.
