RCC has two new staff members — a program manager for health and life sciences data projects, and a bioinformatician who doubles as a software developer.
Dr Jeff Christiansen joins RCC as QCIF Program Manager. He is currently working on a number of NCRIS (RDS and Nectar)–funded national data projects in biomedicine.
Thom Cuddihy joins RCC as a bioinformatician and software developer to work within QFAB, QCIF's bioinformatics arm.
Jeff has a PhD in Biochemistry from UQ, and started his career conducting research in the fields of cancer, molecular genetics and embryo development in both Australia and the UK. He then moved into managing large biological data assets, such as gene sequence and images, through the establishment of a UK-based international database of gene expression and anatomy.
Prior to joining RCC/QCIF, Jeff was based at Intersect Australia in Sydney where he was the National Manager of the RDS-funded med.data.edu.au project. He was also responsible for a number of biology-focused data and IT-related projects across NSW.
Before his NSW role, Jeff was based in Melbourne at the Australian National Data Service, where he was involved in commissioning and monitoring a number of biology/medicine-focused national data management projects.
Thom has a Bachelor of Arts, Bachelor of Science (Hons) and a Masters of Bioinformatics from UQ. He has more than a decade of client-focused IT experience, both from working in IT at UQ, and from private industry.
Thom specialises in multiple programming languages including Python, C#, Java, and R, and has a strong background in databases, system administration and high performance computing.
Thom will contribute to the development of eResearch platforms such as the Genomics Virtual Lab and to the delivery of computational biology projects.
