Two RCC staff are heading to one of the world’s largest supercomputing conferences for the first time.

RCC/QCIF eResearch Analyst Dr Marlies Hankel and RCC Research Computing Systems Engineer Owen Powell will attend the International Conference for High Performance Computing, Networking, Storage, and Analysis — better known as SC23 — from 12–17 November in Denver, Colorado.

They will join RCC’s seasoned SC attendees, Director Professor David Abramson and Chief Technology Officer Jake Carroll.

Marlies is excited to be attending the conference for the first time. “For me, it will be interesting to go to a conference where it’s mostly about computing from the provider and admin’ side compared to purely the user side.

“I look forward to going around the different vendor stalls to find out what’s there and new, and learn new ways to support and train our users.”

The conference has a very large showroom and more than 430 vendors are listed to exhibit at SC23. Vendors are from industry, research organisations, universities, and technology startups globally.

Owen said: “I’m thrilled to have a chance to meet with colleagues and industry partners from around the world to discuss the challenges and opportunities in supercomputing.”

SC23 is expected to attract more than 12,000 national and international attendees who come to see the latest innovations in HPC and related fields. Attendees are largely scientists, engineers, researchers, educators, software programmers and developers.

RCC has a long association with the SC series of conferences. David is a regular attendee of SC and has been on the conference's various organising committees in past years and will be co-chair of panels for SC24.

SC24 will be held in Atlanta, USA, from 18–22 November.
