Q: How much does use of RCC facilities and services cost?
A: Use of RCC facilities by UQ staff, students and affiliates for UQ research is free.
If your storage requirements are excessive, RCC may need to request a contribution to the cost of consumable storage media and related costs.
Q: Are you sure it is free?
A: Yes, usually. Sometimes projects or UQ Organisational Units need to contribute to consumable costs.
Under RCC’s engagement model, some Faculties and Institutes are co-funding support positions within RCC that are targeted to their areas of research computation.
Q: Will it hurt to use RCC facilities?
A: Not usually, however using command line HPC for the first time can cause a dull headache.
If symptoms persist, please contact the RCC Support (rcc-support@uq.edu.au) for training and assistance.
Q: How do I get large amounts of storage for my research data?
A: The Research Data Storage Infrastructure (RDSI) provides large scale storage to support retention and integration of nationally significant data assets into the national collaboration and data fabric. Applications for RDSI storage may be made via the QRISCloud website.
Q: Is there something I can run a web server/host webpages on?
A: Yes! The Nectar Research Cloud provides access to virtual machines on the cloud. Virtual machines can be used for a range of purposes, including Web hosting and serving, virtual desktops, iPython and RStudio. Applications for Nectar virtual machines can be made via the QRISCloud website. The eSpaces project also provides a free Web platform for research collaboration and data sharing.
