ARDC Australian eResearch and Data Skills Summit 2020
RCC eResearch Analyst Dr Nick Hamilton will give a lightning talk about training collaboration at ARDC’s online Australian eResearch and Data Skills Summit.
The Summit, from 26–30 October, will involve presentations and discussions about the discovery, coordination, design, development and delivery of digital skills training and resources for researchers.
Remote training and engagement will be discussed, as will next steps in building Australia’s digitally skilled research workforce.
Dr Nick and Titus Tang, a deep learning engineer and trainer at Monash University, will talk together about their collaboration on the development and delivery of machine learning training materials for Monash and University of Queensland researchers.
The pair established a series of more than 20 workshops this year in which either Monash or UQ hosts the event for 20–40 of their researchers and students, while five places are offered to participants from the other institution.
Dr Nick and Titus will describe the many benefits they have found to this approach, including access to a wider range of expertise in several rapidly developing fields, upskilling of trainers, faster identification of emerging training needs, and peer learning for trainers.
The Monash and UQ training exchange occurred as part of an ARDC-funded machine learning project between Monash University, UQ, QCIF, NCI and the Pawsey Supercomputing Centre. Dr Nick is a co-appointed eResearch Analyst between RCC and QCIF.
