SC17
RCC Director Prof. David Abramson is heading to the U.S. in mid-November to attend SC17, the world’s largest supercomputing conference.
Prof. Abramson is a regular attendee of the conference, being held this year in Denver, Colorado, 12–17 November.
“The conference will allow me to catch up with just about everyone who works in supercomputing, all in less than a week, speak at a workshop, get vendor briefings and attend some great keynote and invited talks,” he said.
On Monday, 13 November, Prof. Abramson will present his talk titled “Scalable Distributed Infrastructure for Data-Intensive Science” at the ATIP (Asian Technology Information Program) Workshop on International Exascale and Next-Generation Computing Programs.
He is also vice-chair of the SC Test of Time Award Committee. The ToTA Award recognises an outstanding paper that has deeply influenced the HPC discipline.
Joining Prof. Abramson at SC17 from Brisbane will be Queensland Brain Institute Senior ICT Manager (Research) Jake Carroll and a group of RCC-sponsored high school students.
Three students from the Queensland Academy for Science, Mathematics and Technology (QASMT) will attend SC17 — one female student and two male students — with the school’s Mathematics Head of Department Russell Hams as their chaperone.
