Sarah Walters, an experienced systems administrator with a background in computer science, will join the RCC team in early January.

Sarah has worked at UQ for almost 10 years in IT support roles at the Queensland Brain Institute (QBI), the UQ Business School and Information Technology Services (ITS).

“I'm really excited about growing my technical skills in the HPC [high-performance computing] space,” said Sarah about joining RCC.

“I have a passion for delivering quality service to end users, so I'm also really looking forward to improving our automation and monitoring and working with end users to deliver what they need to assist in their research outcomes.”

RCC Chief Technology Officer Jake Carroll said Sarah will bring an attention to detail that she can translate into positive shared outcomes for RCC and its UQ stakeholders.

“She’s principled but dynamic and innovative in her approaches to problem solving so she complements our already amazing team perfectly,” said Jake.

Sarah joins RCC from QBI where she has worked for the past two years as a database programmer.

At QBI, she experienced working with the RCC-supported Wiener supercomputer and various storage platforms, including MeDiCI, in day-to-day research support operations.

Prior to joining QBI, Sarah was a systems programmer for the UQ Business School for seven years, and spent two years with ITS.

Before joining UQ, Sarah was a systems administrator at the University of Wollongong. She has also worked in the private financial sector.
