Dr Marlies Hankel is stepping down from her lecturing and research role at UQ to focus full-time at RCC on helping other researchers reach their goals with technology.

She is also being promoted to Senior Development and Consultation Manager at RCC.

Marlies said: “I am passionate about teaching and I will use this opportunity to focus on providing access to training and skills development for UQ researchers and to pass on as much of my own knowledge and experience as I can.”

RCC Director Professor David Abramson said: “We are delighted to have Marlies join the RCC team full-time, and believe she will make a great contribution in supporting our users.”

Through RCC, Marlies is seconded to QCIF as one of its UQ-based eResearch Analysts.

At RCC and QCIF, Marlies’ main roles include looking after UQ’s HPC cluster users and QCIF’s partner share at the National Computational Infrastructure (NCI). Marlies provides advice and support to researchers applying to access HPC resources at both NCI and the Pawsey Supercomputing Centre.

She also regularly attends UQ’s weekly Hacky Hour to provide HPC support to researchers.

This year, as well as her QCIF and RCC work, Marlies has lectured first-year mathematics at UQ and conducted research within the Australian Institute for Bioengineering Nanotechnology.

See our separate article about Marlies receiving a UQ Above and Beyond in 2020 award this month for teaching.
